Dear Lyme-Old Lyme Parents/Guardians and potential Unified Sports Members,
Unified Sports is a registered program of Special Olympics that combines approximately equal numbers of athletes with and without disabilities, on sports teams for training and competition. All Unified Sports players, both athletes and partners, are similar age and matched sport skill ability. Unified Sports teams are placed in competitive divisions based on their skill abilities, and range from training divisions (with a skill-learning focus) to high skill competition.
The pioneer sports program was started in 1992 under the partnership between the CIAC and the Special Olympics Connecticut to expand athletic opportunities for students of all abilities. The Unified Sports program has grown rapidly, with over 3000 students participating last year in Connecticut alone.
Lyme-Old Lyme is starting their own Unified Sports program this this year. We are looking for athletes and partners who are interested in committing to one or two practices a week, along with competitions between other shoreline schools a few times a season, as well as, a few shoreline and state tournaments. Sports that will be included in the program will be soccer, basketball, volleyball, bowling and track and field. We would like to launch the program at our winter sports night on November 15th, with a short informational session. In the meantime, please discuss with your child about the idea of being a part of this amazing opportunity and complete the interest sheet attached. If interested please return to the Lyme-Old Lyme Athletic Department by November 15, 2018. You may also begin to register on FamilyID starting November 1. All Unified Sports athletes and partners will need to meet all the requirements for sport participation listed in the Athletic Handbook.

Registration for Winter Sports is now open on the Lyme-Old Lyme Athletic Webpage. The final day to accept registration online is Tuesday, November 12th for all Middle School Sports and Monday, November 26th for all High School Sports(Girls Basketball & Fencing should have their registration complete by Nov 21 to prevent any delays). To prevent from being held out of practice, begin the registration process and submit all required documents as soon as possible. In order to participate in ANY sport a student-athlete must have met all requirements stated in the Lyme-Old Lyme Athletic Handbook.
The Mandatory High School Winter Sports Night for parents and players will be Thursday, November 15th at 6:30pm in the High School Auditorium.
Middle School will be receiving information from their coaches/School with try-out and season information.

Fall Sports Announcements
I hope this letter finds you happy, healthy and enjoying the summer break. In preparation for the 2018 Fall Athletic Season I have enclosed some important information and deadlines for the upcoming school year.
Registration for Fall Sports will open on familyid starting Sunday, July 15, 2018. The final day to accept registration online is Friday, August 10th for Football and Monday, August 20th is for all other sports. This deadline is required as time is needed prior to the start of the season to review forms, compile medical information, resolve all outstanding obligation and inform coaches of student’s eligibility. Please help us help your student-athlete to participate without any delay. In order to participate in ANY sport a student must have meet all requirements stated in the Lyme-Old Lyme Athletic Handbook, which can be found on the Region18 website.
The Mandatory Fall Sports Night for parents and players will be Wednesday, August 15th at 6:30pm at LOLHS. The nurses will be available to check on the status of your child’s physical that night, however; it is recommended that you contact our health office prior to the night.
Anyone interested in participating in football, must complete familyid.com registration prior to August 10th. You will need to be cleared through the Lyme-Old Lyme athletic department prior to attending any practices or workouts with Valley Regional. Football season begins on Monday, August 13th. Once registration is complete, your information will be forwarded to the Valley Coaches and Athletic Director who will contact you with more information about the upcoming season.
