Math Team
Description: The Math Team gives students interested in math a chance to use their knowledge of numbers outside of the classroom and a chance to compete against other schools in the Greater Middlesex County Math League. The Math Team has a Varsity and Junior Varsity component. How to get involved: Contact Mrs. Barbara Leen and attend a meeting if you are interested.
How to get involved: Contact Mrs. Barbara Leen or Ms. Lauren Rahr and attend a meeting if you are interested.
Meeting Time(s): Every other Thursday at 2:30-3:30pm in Mrs. Leen's room. Season runs from Sept. to April.
Advisors: Mrs. Barbara Leen and Ms. Lauren Rahr.
Events: Members matches are held once a month. Matches require an after school commitment of approximately 1 hour. An awards banquet at Xavier High School occurs at the end of the season in March or April.
Commitment/Expectations for attendance for meetings, practice(s), and/or event(s):
This club expects a minimal commitment from students (30 min - 1 hr/week). Students are encouraged to attend bi-weekly morning meetings - if absent they should let the advisor know prior to the meeting. Sign-in occurs at meetings. If students are part of an athletics team or another club that requires a high commitment during one or more seasons, they may miss matches and recommence after that season is over.
A team member is designated as official or unofficial for each match but all will compete. Should an "unofficial" member score higher than his/her classmate, he/she becomes official for the next match. To prepare for the match, each team member is given a study guide for self-preparation. Ms. Leen is available to assist team members with the preparation packet on an individual or group basis.
