National Honor Society (NHS)
Description: The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nationwide organization for high school students. The Lyme-Old Lyme High School chapter of the National Honor Society is open to junior and senior students who meet the required standards of scholarship, character, leadership, and service. NHS is a service-based organization which requires volunteer work in the school and community.
How to get involved: Students are invited to apply during their junior year. Students who apply are selected for membership by the Faculty Council, which bestows this honor upon qualified students, based on the four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character.
Meeting Time(s): First and Third Friday of the Month @7 am in the Library.
Advisor: Ms. Emma Cox and Mrs. Lucy Trost
Events: Members attend and/or participate in 3+ events throughout the year. Examples of events include but are not limited to the NHS Toy Drive, Sports Drive, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Teacher Appreciation Breakfast and the annual Induction Ceremony.
Commitment/Expectations for attendance for meetings, practice(s), and/or event(s):
This club expects a minimal commitment from students (30 min - 1 hr/week). Attendance is required at Friday morning meetings. Participation is expected at at least three events. NHS members must continue to demonstrate the qualities of scholarship, character, service, and leadership. Students are required to maintain the required GPA each quarter after being inducted.
