We wanted to start off by discussing common Spanish hobbies that take place in Spanish speaking nations. To begin, we wanted to bring up soccer, or better known as fútbol, in Spain. Spain is home to one million soccer players of all ages. Two of those most famous soccer teams, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, were founded in Spain. Very different from soccer, is another Spanish hobby, known as bullfighting. This is a popular activity in Spain. However, it has been outlawed numerous times. Spanish civilians still continue to try to sign petitions in hopes of continuing this tradition. However, sports are not the only activities Spanish people take part in. There is also the Flamenco, which was originally founded in Andalusia. Although this dance was very popular, it was also used as a form of rebellion during the Franco regime. This dance incorporated a form of expression to convey emotions and relationships. In Spain, another form of expression that was regularly utilized was art. With the influence of the Italian Renaissance from the 16th century, the Spanish Renaissance displayed various art pieces centered around religion. The 17th century was a time when art flourished. Spanish Cubism and Surrealism were two major movements that Spain contributed to 20th-century art. Pablo Picasso was the figure of art for Spanish Cubism. Some famous Spanish artists who utilized Surrealism were Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró. |
