On Saturday evening, the LOLHS held their prom at Haley Mansion in Mystic. The venue was perfect; the food, delicious; the music had everyone dancing... it was a wonderful evening...fun was had by all! Take a look at some of the photos... Photo Booth photos will be posted soon as well. The first picture is our group in front of the fire viewing area (it's a massive fire right behind that wall). The second picture is outside, with John, in front of a cooling system. ECOS toured the WIN Waste-to-Energy facility on Earth Day. We were led by plant manager (and Old Lyme resident), John Horgan. John began the tour giving us an insightful presentation on how WIN provides energy to the grid. He then led our group to the bottom of the plant to see the largest garbage fire one will ever see! Then we went to the top of the plant to see the crane at work, moving garbage from an enormous pit into hoppers leading down to the fire.
It was an eye-opening experience in more ways that one! Image below links to Channel 3 News segment, and link to video created my ELHS students. The East Lyme High School EMT program, which includes students from Waterford and Lyme/Old Lyme High Schools, in collaboration with the Army National Guard and the New London High School EMT program recently participated in a Mass Casualty training exercise at Camp Nett. Teams of EMT students performed admirably utilizing their training during scenarios, and unexpected challenges, facilitated by combat medics. Special thanks to East Lyme HS Principal Mr. Kydd, Waterford HS Principal Mr. Samuelson, and Army National Guard recruit Leah Taylor for volunteering as "victims" during the simulations. Also, special thanks to the Army National Guard personnel for organizing the event at Camp Nett, and providing the highly specialized instruction and equipment. The event was a great success, and we are looking forward to additional collaborative opportunities with our Pathways partners. Well Done TJ Sousa and Kyle Ingersoll-Bonsack!Congratulations to the newly inducted National Honor Society members. Last years inductees presented this years group by reading a brief biography of each student. It was an impressive and elegant ceremony followed by a festive reception in the Commons. Congratulations on your achievements Wildcats!
Congratulations to Ada LaConti for being selected by the Music Department as the April Rotary Student of the Month for her excellence in Fine Arts, specifically the Performing Arts. Ada was celebrated at Saybrook Point Inn on Wednesday along with her peers from Westbrook and Old Saybrook High Schools. Ada is a enthusiastic and caring student and role model who, while excelling in all her academics, has shown a commitment and dedication to the LOLHS theater program performing every year in the musicals as well as being a member of Select Singers. Ada plans on attending college in Washington, DC next year. Well Done Ada!
On Tuesday evening, the World Language Department celebrated their 2nd annual Language National Honor Society Induction Ceremony together. The Chinese, Latin, French and Spanish Scholars were inducted into their respective Lyme-Old Lyme High School's chapter. These students are recognized for their excellence in language learning and exploration of the culture. Each chapter has worked tirelessly this year impacting our local, national and international communities. After the ceremony, students and families enjoyed a reception. A special thanks to Mr. Carroll, Mrs. Lefevre, Mr. Wang, and Sr. Vazquez for their efforts in coordinating a special evening.

Well Done Wildcats!Last week, 11th grade students with an interest in the medical field had a wonderful day at the Medical Career Day field trip at Middlesex Health Shoreline Medical Center. Students spent the day learning from different professionals in the field of healthcare and participating in a variety of engaging hands-on activities. It was an informative and enjoyable experience for all! By Sophia D'Angelo
This semester, in Spanish Honor Society, students have been focusing on different cultures and traditions that contribute to the importance of Spanish speaking countries. Most recently, students have learned about Quinceañeras and the significance of this celebration on a young latinas life. By observing these celebrations through documentaries, we are able to learn about traditions such as, “La Ultima Muneca” (The Last Doll), which is a doll given to these young women that represent the end of childhood and the beginning of their womanhood. Their dresses represent another important tradition in Latina culture, as their large and beautiful dresses transition the women into adulthood and maturity. Quinceañera also highlights the importance of courage and confidence in women and their individuality and independence. Learning about these traditions help students get a better understanding of Latino culture and allows them to form new connections with others. The lessons this semester have been very impactful on the students of Spanish Honor Society and have helped them learn more about information about other Spanish cultures that provide them with beneficial skills inside and outside of the classroom to speak more about Spanish culture, traditions, and important beliefs. We are looking to expand our job shadow placement opportunities through our School to Career Services for 11th and 12th grade students. We hope you may consider partnering with us to provide students with these valuable experiences in their identified career of interest. Job shadows can include a full day where a student joins you at your place of employment to learn the ins and outs of your profession. If this is not an option, an opportunity may also include coming to the high school to meet with the student(s) to share information about your profession through a presentation and/or Q&A session. Please complete the Job Shadow Opportunities Survey (below) if you would like to be added to our Job Shadow Placement list. If you have any specific questions – please reach out to Christie Williams-Kahn, School to Career Coordinator. Job Shadow Opportunities SurveyOn April 1st, two of Lyme-Old Lyme High School's most talented artists, Janna Graves and Dominic Clark, were honored at the Connecticut High School Outstanding Arts Awards Banquet. Congratulations to both of these students for their excellent achievements in fine arts and performing arts respectively! Janna and Dominic are looking forward to following their passion in the arts as they continue their studies at the secondary level! WELL DONE and CONGRATULATIONS
