Last Tuesday, two LOLHS graduates, cousins and National Automobile Dealers Association Ambassadors presented a $1,000 check to the Lyme Old Lyme Education Foundation.
The money is earmarked to support educational enrichment for women at the Lyme Old Lyme High School. Both Laura Lee and Kaleigh selected the foundation as both appreciated the strong technology, arts and business curriculum at the high school that has been thoroughly enhanced by the Lyme Old Lyme Education’s efforts. Laura is rising sophomore at Yale University and Kaleigh is a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina. Four students in the Microsoft Office Certification class earned the status of Specialist in Excel by passing the certification exam given by Microsoft. Congratulations to Britney DeRoehn, Cole Hamparian, Carson Swope and Colleen Walsh for becoming Specialists in Excel. The Excel test is the most difficult out the three certification tests the students take in this course. According to The Wall Street Journal: : "High proficiency in software like Microsoft Excel is increasingly helping people land jobs."
Congratulations! Last weekend's regatta was the New England Interscholastic Championship. The boys first boat took second in their heat to put them in the Grand Final where they placed sixth. Making the top six of all New England High School rowing programs is tremendous accomplishment and a great result for a tenth seed. The boat included Sam Fuchs in bow, Connor Hogan 2, Olin Fredricks 3, Adam Drummond stroke and Gabriel Stephen's-Zumbaum coxwain.
The girls first boat at NEIRA's, seeded 18th, took 4th in their heat to advance to the petite final where they finished 4th. As an 18th seed they finished 10th of all New England crews. This is a really tough crowd for them to achieve 10th. The boat included Lauren King bow, Renate Kuhn 2, Emma Paynter 3, Erin Cornelius Stroke and Elyza Learned coxwain. LOLHS boys and girls second boats also qualified for the championship and had excellent races. WAY TO GO WILDCATS! George Danes and Morgan Greenho with Coach Pfeiffer after winning States doubles and the team coming in runner up for states. Both made all state and continue to competition on Saturday to represent LOLHS. Go Wildcats!
