On Wednesday, October 11, all 9th , 10th and 11th graders will be taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). The PSAT, a shortened version of the SAT Reasoning Test, will provide students with the opportunity to become familiar with the content and format of the SAT. While the PSAT is for practice, it is a valuable tool and is used to provide us with important student benchmark data.
Some helpful reminders to help your student prepare:
- Get a good night's sleep
- Eat a good breakfast
- Leave your devices at home (or in your locker)
- Try your best:)

Upcoming October Events

Take a look at what October has in store... some important dates to remember:

Tuesday, October 3 don't miss the double header event at the high school: Sophomore Parent Night at 6 pm and at 7 pm, a talk about The Power of Social Media presented by Tom Pincince.
October 6 student will enjoy a half day of classes while teachers will be participating in professional development.
October 9 - No school! Enjoy a long weekend ... thank you Christopher Columbus!
October 11 brings PSAT testing. All students grades 9-11 students will be testing in the morning followed by classes after lunch. Seniors begin classes after lunch at 11:58. Schedules will be posted on CANVAS, sent via email as well as posted on the blog.
October 18 - the ASVAB Test (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test) will be offered. Students wanting to find out more about their academic and occupational strengths and abilities can sign up in the School Counseling Office.

Active Learning and Communication in the World Language Classroom

The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) has recently published an article in the monthly national journal, The Language Educator.
The article, "Planning for Active Learning and Communication" is a culmination of 4 years of hard work, data collection and analysis completed by Mr. Juan Jose Vasquez-Caballero, LOLHS' own Spanish Teacher! In this article Mr. Vazquez eloquently explains how setting SMART goals, self-assessing and ultimately taking control of one's learning has a clear impact on teaching and learning.
