We have two clubs that students have organized which will begin in December...Check them out! The food drive was a big success! Thanks to all who were able to contribute. The LOLHS community collected 573 pounds of donations. Mrs. Brouwer's home room collected an impressive 102 items, and came out on top! It is truly impressive to witness how Wildcats step up to help neighbors in need! WAY TO GO WILDCATS!Thanks to LOLHS' Student Council, we were able to hold one of the best Pep Rallies EVER! On Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, students decorated their sections of the gymnasium. Students showed spirit, unity and pride by wearing blue and white and either participating in or cheering on their peers and class. Fun activities were planned like the limbo, knock-out, oreo shuffle, pie eating contest, bowling, and wrap their advisor. Lots of laughs and fun was had by all! Nice Work Student Council!
Way To Go Wildcats! On Wednesday during our extended homeroom time, class had time to meet to participate in their planned activity. Class of 2028 were in the Gym participating in various activities and competitions between the homerooms. The class of 2027 convened in the Library to prepare posters and decorations for the upcoming pep-rally. The juniors and seniors enjoyed Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving in the Auditorium. Students enjoyed some great bonding!
The best thing about winter is ...SKIING! Join in on the fun with BOTH ski clubs:
LYSB & LOLHS take a look Fall Blood Drive: Student Council hosted a fall blood drive on Tuesday, November 19th. We hit our goal of collecting blood from 20 donors! Thank you to all the students and teachers who donated. Also thank you to our Student council members for bringing in snacks, help register donors, and volunteer throughout the blood drive. Thank you to the teachers who helped monitor during their prep periods! We look forward to hosting another blood drive in the Spring!
Congratulations to Simon Karpinski for being selected by the Math Department as the Rotary Student of the Month. On November 13th, Simon was honored at the Rotary Student of the Month Breakfast along with honorees from Old Saybrook and Westbrook High Schools. Mrs. Leen remarked that Simon's love of math is such a natural gift that she had observed back when he was in 6th grade! His mathematical ability and conceptual understanding are amazing. He is known for his love of learning, his humble approach while collaborating and effective leadership style that he demonstrates both in and out of the classroom in all areas of our school community
Monday, November 11th, proved to be, yet again, a wonderful demonstration of LOLHS' gratitude and honor for our local Veterans. Our Wildcat Band and Chorus performed with heart and soul that stole the show - as always! Chloe Datum and Maya Cook were the Masters of Ceremonies. Chloe Datum made the opening remarks reminding us about the history of Veterans Day. Kate Walsh introduced her parents, Sarah and Mark Walsh, Retired Coast Guard, who shared their experiences as well as a wonderful poem that Mrs. Walsh wrote. Our VFW announced the winners of the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest. Students submitted essays responding to the question: "Is America Today Our Forefathers' Vision?" Congratulations to our thirteen essay contest winners. Their essays will be forwarded to the state level for judging. It was a beautiful ceremony for our Veterans - the heroes who have unselfishly dedicated their lives fighting to provide us with the freedoms we hold near and dear as American Citizens. We thank them for joining us on Friday and making the day so special. Officer Stephen Hackett of the OlPD spoke with Mr D’Aquila’s Civics class about Fourth amendment rights and policing duties. He went through case law and provided students with real life scenarios. He even provided insight into what being a police officer is like day to day and career options for students interested in pursuing Criminal Justice. The class was very engaged and had great questions for officer Hackett as well. Officer Hackett is a graduate of LOLHS and was once a student in Mr. D’Aquila’s Civics class.
The annual Food Drive is underway-please donate what you can by 11/22!
PJ day raised $270 to help hurricane victims! Thanks to all who donated! Andrew and Tabitha handed out glow sticks at the PGN Haunted Book Cellar on Halloween and brought a little light to an otherwise spooky night! ECOS stewards assembled bridges with members of the Old Lyme Open Space committee to improve trail accessibility on the McCulloch Property. It’s a great hiking trail-get out and enjoy it!
