This week at LOLHS has been truly a festive one. Between the daily holiday wear, our 2nd Annual Winter Carnival, Cookie Decorating, the caroling around school, and the customary "Holiday Assembly" to close out the week, it has been a fun and special week. The Wind Ensemble and the Select Singers book-ended our holiday assembly prepared for us by the Student Council. Both groups were absolutely AMAZING! And in between, the students and teachers participated in various minute-to-win it activities which included a sleigh Ride Relay, Jingle Bell Hop, Unwrap the Gift (with mitten on), Candy Cane Toss, and Decorate a Teacher. We shared lots of laughs and spread lots of holiday cheer. Take a look at some of the events and performances below:
On December 12 and December 18, the Music Department held their respective winter concerts. Both are staple holiday events in our LOLHS community and are such a wonderful way to spread some joy and peace. The students performed amazingly. If you missed the concerts, the links below will bring to the recordings or every piece. Nice Job Wildcats!Link to the Winter BAND ConcertLink to the Winter CHORAL ConcertOn Wednesday during our extended homeroom block, the class officers of each class prepared various holiday activities for students to enjoy. So, for about 35 minutes, students selected whatever activity they wanted and mingled from one to the next. Activities included:

Two weeks ago, one of Lyme - Old Lyme High School’s very own students was a guest speaker for the Spanish Honors Society. Candela, an exchange student from Spain, gave us insight on what her life is like in Spain, providing photos of clothes, food, musicians, and various events that take place in her home country. We learned that some popular music artists include Mora, Bryant Myers, and JC Reyes. Candela also talked about Carnival, which usually happens in February and consists of costumes, parades, and other celebrations. Another tradition in Spain is to eat a grape every five seconds during the last minute of the year on New Year’s Eve. It is called “Las Doce Uvas de la Suerte,” which means “the twelve grapes of luck.” Additionally, Candela told us about how she and her friends spend their free time. Because they live in Madrid, they are able to walk to many different places, such as the park, to hang out. Thank you Candela for sharing with us and good luck with the rest of your year here!

Nice Work Wildcats! On Monday before break, LOLHS was fortunate to have Liam Corrigan, 2024 Olympic Gold Medalist and LOLHS Graduate (2015), to share some of his journey. Liam's message was, as his gold medal was passes around the auditorium, was universal and appropriate for all: you have to be persistent and willing to grow with each loss. He has only experienced three wins and 36 losses but at each step he took away something that made him grow. It was truly an inspirational message.
