By: Alyssa Spooner & Sr. Vazquez The Spanish Honor Society recently had the honor and pleasure of speaking to LOLHS alumni Colleen Walsh about her Spanish minor at the University of Alabama. Along with her studies, Colleen volunteers at a local school organization and during this she speaks Spanish to the children there, she elaborated on the experience of speaking Spanish in another environment other than in her academics and the new skills she has developed because of it. Additionally, Colleen talked about how she experienced speaking Spanish in a medical setting at a local hospital when she volunteers, another environment in which SHS members have yet to experience. Colleen offered incredible insight to Spanish speaking in the post-high school years, and the Spanish Honor Society is beyond delighted to have had the opportunity to speak to her! This month Amnesty sold Valentine goodies to the students and faculty. Each goodie came with a small toy and cute note to the person's valentine. All the profits were donated to Safe Futures; a program focused on dealing with domestic violence. Raising $169 for Safe Futures! Students also worked on this month's Black History Month board. The theme was Black Resistance and included lesser-known leaders in black culture.
