Senior Banquet - 2022

5/28/2022

It was a great event on Thursday evening at Langley's Restaurant in Waterford. It was a celebration of the class of 2022 as they prepare to step on the stage for their diplomas. Students shared an evening filled with memories which began with a wonderful slideshow produced by Olivia Turtoro, the class historian. The presentation included not only their 4 year history at LOLHS but also many of their childhood moments that they shared together. The seniors were also treated to a letter that they wrote themselves in middle school with Mrs. Glorioso. The finale was the distribution of yearbooks!  It was a wonderful evening!

Field Day 2022

5/28/2022

This past week, LOLHS' Student Leaders sponsored our Spring Spirit Week full of Wildcat Pride  culminating with Field Day on Thursday. We followed the half day schedule and at 11:15, the entire school enjoyed a wonderful BBQ lunch prepared by our amazing kitchen staff. No matter where you were, students and faculty were having fun whether it was listening to our senior live band perform, eating unlimitted ice cream, playing kickball, wiffle ball, ping pong, or basketball, challenging themselves to trivia or singing to Karaoke, relaxing on the field,  playing yard games, frisbee, or participating in one of the 5 different wellness booths sponsored by LYSB. The choices were seemingly endless. LYSB and VNA also sponsored our Alumn Emma Boardmand, serving up Del's Lemonade all afternoon! The weather was perfect and with all the activities, it made for a wonderful, fun packed afternoon! It was a really great way to welcome in summer, enjoy each other's company outside of the classroom, and relax just a bit before we begin to  wrap up the end of the year and prepare for exams.

Special thanks goes to LOLHS Student Leaders and the Advisors: Mrs. Todd, Ms Macione and Mr. Kaczor for planning this event with such detail. Well Done Wildcats!

Any item brought into school for Anything but a Backpack Day must not violate school rules and must be an item that can be safely transported up and down stairs and to each class. There should be nothing that is harmful or disruptive to the learning environment. If you have a question about what is appropriate or not, chances are, it is not… but you can also reach out to Ms. Macione and Mrs. Todd for questions or concerns. This is supposed to be a fun day to bring in a grocery bag, small laundry basket, bucket, cat carrier, etc. The item should be something you can carry your books in so you cannot bring in something to ride on yourself. (Bringing in a person is not acceptable as are large objects that cannot travel easily up the stairs or will be intrusive in the classroom environment)

Chem Students Blow Up Water!

5/22/2022

by Mrs. Walter
This week in Chemistry class students blew up water!  The goal was to reach the triple point of dry ice (solid carbon dioxide). The triple point is reached when all three phases of matter (solid, liquid, gas) exist at the same time. The phase of matter is determined by a combination of temperature and pressure. The kids increased the pressure by sealing a plastic pipet that contained dry ice. They could tell when the triple point was reached because they could see the solid melting at the same time that the liquid was boiling.  Cool.  If they don't release the pressure it will increase to the point of exploding the pipet. Fun.  (The activity is done in a cup of water to contain any shards of plastic that may occur but it also helps to see inside the action inside the pipet as well.)

Rotary Student of the Month for Business

5/15/2022

Congratulations to Aidan Ward who was selected as the Business Department’s Rotary Student of the Month!  Aidan was selected by the Department because he has all the attributes needed to become an outstanding, successful person in the field of business. Aidan has taken many and varied courses in the Business Department but focused in on Accounting completing 5 courses and QuickBooks training.  Aidan sat for and passed the Certiport/Intuit test that gave him a Certification in QuickBooks, meaning he can go out and be employed by someone using QuickBooks or start his own business. Dr. Hedwall said that in her four years working with Aidan, she has seen “an intelligent, mature, motivated, focused, cooperative, pleasant, helpful-to-all, positive, calm, unflappable, up-beat young man who truly can do it all and make it seem as if whatever he is doing is the only thing he has on his plate – meaning he gives 100% to everything he does. He can be counted on to do what he says, when he says it. His future is bright and he will be wonderful addition to the business community when he gets into the working world.”

Well Done Aidan!
