LOLHS Student Granted Title of Microsoft Expert!

6/12/2022

Lauren Enright passed the Microsoft Word and Excel expert exams and was granted the title of Microsoft Expert! Only the second student to achieve this title in LOLHS history. She received an email from Microsoft congratulating her on this achievement.  Lauren also passed the Microsoft Outlook certification test. Microsoft certifications make students more employable in the workforce and for internships because they show the students have the skills to do the work. Many colleges are also granting credit or waving their technology requirement for students holding the Microsoft certifications.

June's Rotary Student of the Month: Health/PE

6/10/2022

Congratulations to Nicolette Hallahan for being selected as Rotary Student of the Month for her excellence in Health and PE. As Mr. Cohen noted: "Nikki Hallahan is an exemplary student and a unique individual who constantly strives for excellence. Nikki masters a skill, yet continues to challenge herself in an effort to reach perfection. She is very competitive with herself and is constantly setting new goals to reach. Nikki is an all-state rower in crew and can play the flute better than anyone I know. Every year that I’ve had Nikki in class, she has been a leader in the classroom and sets a great example for our younger students in the building as someone to look up to. She was always an active participant in class who demonstrated and encouraged respect for all classmates. Nikki is going to continue her education at Purdue University as she was accepted into their Nursing Program. Students that decide to go into the health field after graduating from LOLHS always hold a special place in our hearts in the PE/ Health department. These reasons are why Nikki is so deserving of the Rotary Student of the month for Physical Education/ Health."

WELL DONE, NIKKI!

After, Nick Adeletti's mobile detail unit, paid it forward and washed Mr. Wygonik's and Ms. Manfredi's cars!

CABE Student Leadership Awards !

6/5/2022

Congratulations to Abby Speckhals and Alex Roth for being selected as this year's Connecticut Association of Boards of Education Student Leaders. Mr. Wygonik presented the students with their award at last week's Board of Education. Both of these students are so deserving of this award. Below are the remarks shared by Mr. Wygonik at the  meeting.
Abby Speckhals
Abby is a leader with a strong presence at Lyme Old Lyme High School.  She is a bright, independent, and dedicated young woman, who is committed to both academic and personal excellence. Abby’s strong ethical values are displayed in her daily life in the way she treats others, with kindness and respect.   A High Honor Student, she loves to learn.  She is especially passionate in the field of STEM.  She is driven by curiosity and ingenuity.  A great example of Abby’s commitment is her role as a leader on the robotics team.  Nominated for the FIRST Robotics Dean’s List Award, Abby has taken the top responsibilities with programming, building and coding the Robots.    In addition to her work in Robotics, Abby can be seen producing our weekly School News program as well as competing for our Math team.   Abbey is a four-year member of the Volleyball team and served as a captain her senior year.  Abby’s impacts are broad.  She is an essential member of our community who shines brightly in everything she does.
Alex Roth
Alex is a smart, thoughtful, and caring young man, driven to succeed both in and outside the classroom.  Alex is multi-talented and accomplished, while being one of the nicest people you will ever meet.    He has become known in our school and community as the “go to” person for video and film production.  As founder and president of “Alex Roth Media”, He has produced numerous videos that highlight our school.  Alex also lends his talents as an editor and producer of out a weekly news program for WLYM.  I mentioned in my opening that Alex is multi-talented.  I had the privilege of watching him build a camping trailer for his senior project.  As if this isn’t enough, Alex is catcher and Captain on our Varsity Baseball Team.  Alex has also worked as an intern in our Athletic department utilizing his talents to promote our teams and manage our social media platforms.  He will attend The University of Connecticut next year where he has already landed a job in the sports media department.

One Senior Project

6/5/2022

On Tuesday morning, as I was running around preparing for the class of 2026 to descend on LOLHS, I came across Olivia Schaedler hunched over in a taped off corner of our commons. She was working on her senior project: an "Infiorata", or flower carpet. The images you see below are made with dried flowers and petals that Olivia collected for several months. She was inspired by the Infiorata Festivals that occur  Italy. Take a look at this amazing work...Absolutely stunning!

LOLHS Compete in the Geo Challenge

6/5/2022

Lyme-Old Lyme had 2 teams compete in the annual CT Geography Challenge, held at CCSU.  They had to work as a team to problem solve, complete an orienteering course and along with trivia bowl in the afternoon, all around this year’s theme of Global Climate Change.   They gained some knowledge, worked as a team and had fun too!
