If you have not yet joined THE SQUARE... please join. This will help build stronger communication between students, teachers, parents, administration. On Thursday, Chemistry students learned real life connections between chemistry and cooking. Students participated in a lab to demonstrate limiting reactants in chemistry by making pancakes! Students changed the amount of Baking Soda in the recipe and analyzed how the gas that is produced by this ingredient improves the quality of the pancake. On Thursday, March 28th, student council sponsored a school wide easter-egg hunt called "Where's Wygo". Mr. Wygonik's face was photoshopped onto a "Where's Waldo" body and hidden around the school. Lots of decoys were hidden to distract the students. Winners were able to redeem their "Wygo Waldo" for a prize! Congrats to many of our students who won! Jennifer Coffey from Webster Bank spoke to the Personal Finance classes this week. The students learned about the different types of bank accounts, how to open an account, banking fees, checking accounts, and fraud. Thank you Jennifer for your time and informative presentation!
Get ready to dance the night away at this year’s prom extravaganza! Here’s what you need to know:
Student Council ends March Madness with some more Wildcat fun! Students need to find the cut-outs of the above image of Mr. Wygonik that will be hidden all over the school. There are also many decoy hidden as well. Those who find Wygo, win a prize! GOOD LUCK WILDCATS!Chemistry students had some fun on Friday as they conducted a calorie lab. Each lab group collected data when burning a Frito chip, a Dorito, a Lays Potato Chip and a Cheeto to find out which one has the most calories.
On Wednesday, LOLHS' students participated in an all school assembly to with Ben Cort. Ben is from Colorado and has spent years traveling across the country and internationally making the public aware of the realities of modern marijuana and educating people to recognize the problems associated with these new strains of very powerful marijuana. Ben is passionate about recovery, and he is the founder of a sober athletic gym community in several states. He is an author, a TEDTalk speaker, and a trusted resource when national leaders need expert advice about marijuana issues. Ben spent the week travelling to several schools in Connecticut and we were lucky to have him here in Old Lyme.
On Saturday, LOLHS' Model UN Team participated in the ClarkMUN XIV. This is a high school Model United Nations conference hosted by the MUN at Clark team of Clark University. The conference aims to provide a platform for high school students to learn about international relations, diplomacy, and the United Nations. Model UN is an excellent way for students to develop their leadership and public speaking skills and at ClarkMUN XIV, students had a unique experience that combines diplomacy, debate, and cultural exchange. This year's delegates included: Will Coppola, Anna Belle Coppola, Ryan Shapiro, Owen Shapiro, Ella Halsey; Beatrice Hunt, Cameron Russell and Zoe Brunza. A special shout out for Will Coppola
