National Honor Society
Guest Speaker: Richard Fisler By: Arianna DelMastro On Wednesday, October 2nd, new LOLHS science teacher Richard Fisler gave a presentation to the Spanish Honor Society about the time he spent living in Germany. Mr. Fisler discussed the importance of learning languages as it pertains to cultural understanding and global citizenship, and he answered questions that students had regarding what it was like to live in a foreign country. Mr. Fisler shared how, before living in Germany, he had never traveled very far from his home state. Spanish Honor Society students were inspired by his account of the challenges and gains of living in a new country and learning a new language, and they greatly appreciated him taking the time to share those experiences. As Mr. Fisler taught us, learning a language is not just about personal advantage, it’s about establishing worldly connections. Thank you Mr. Fisler! This year's Wildcat Wellness Day proved to be quite a success. After the academic classes finished at 11:15, students and staff selected from a myriad of workshops - each, in their own way, having a focus on health and wellness. Participants came away with at least one strategy that can be used on a daily basis... whether it was learning how to meditate, make smoothies or juicing, create books, dance, drum, exercise, concentrate, or even which super-foods or essential oils are right for you.. all participants were challenged to take the time to think about how we can be more mindful of our health and wellness. There were 34 workshops in which to participate. Take a look at some pictures of students and staff in action along with the workshop list and presenters. It was an incredible day full of great energy and enthusiasm that was made possible because of the efforts and expertise of various community members.
