A Message from our Health Office:

12/16/2022

Cold and flu season has arrived here at LOLHS. These illnesses spread through respiratory droplets caused by coughing or sneezing.  It usually spreads from person to person, though occasionally a person may become infected by touching something with the virus on it and then touching their nose or mouth.  It is important for us all to practice illness prevention strategies which are listed below.
  • Frequent hand washing with soap and water.  Wash hands for at least 15-20 seconds.
  • Use of hand sanitizing gel when hand washing is not an option.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with your hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.  You may be contagious for several days once symptoms develop.
Administration and faculty recognize the need for staying at home when illness occurs. They support any measures to reduce the spread of flu and other communicable diseases.

Please notify your child’s school nurse and keep them home from school if they are exhibiting any of the following symptoms:
  • Fever of 100 degrees or greater. Students should be fever-free without use of a fever-reducing medication for a minimum of 24-48 hours before returning to school.
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea. Students should remain at home until they have stopped vomiting for at least 24 hours and are able to tolerate fluids.
  • Persistent/disruptive cough lasting for more than a few days or with a fever.
  • Sore throat that is accompanied by fatigue, body aches, and fever.
  • Skin rash that may be suggestive of a communicable disease.

Feel free to contact the nurses in the health office if you have any questions. If students need to be out of school for more than two days, it is advised for them to contact their teachers and communicate their situation. Teachers will work with them on make-up academic work plans.
