Former LOLHS Accounting student, Aidan Ward, spoke to Accounting classes to tell them about his experiences as a college accounting major. Although currently a Sophomore, he gave helpful information about what it was like his Freshman year including not being able to take many courses in his major. He told the students that the Career Center is invaluable to work with in college; he mentioned that LinkedIn and joining clubs were important for an accounting major to network. In addition to his college experiences, Aidan talked about interning with Mahoney Sabol & Company and being able to use his QuickBooks Certification (which he earned while in high school accounting). He told students that an internship was key to more networking and learning about every aspect of a business from clerical work to actual accounting; he said the important thing you gain from an internship is watching and learning about a future career and how an accounting firm works. His closing remarks to students pursuing a career in accounting were that students should be able to use Microsoft Excel, go to the professors' office hours, to get involved with campus life, to go to events sponsored by the business school, and to meet accounting firms. Before leaving, he answered student questions. Students remarked that they were very impressed with his presentation and that hearing for a current college student helped a lot. Comments are closed.
