Last Wednesday during our Advisory period, panels of seniors joined underclass homerooms to share some insight about being a student at LOLHS. Seniors shared thier perspectives about things that they should consider as they prepare for the upcoming year. Topics of conversation included relationship building with teachers and peers, co-curricular activities, courses to consider for next year, and many various tips and tricks for putting your best self forward as students navigate thier high school years. Lyme-Old Lyme High School would like to recognize and congratulate Melanie Warren for being selected for this year's Rotary's Technology Education Student of the Month. Melanie has done a great job in multiple Technology and Engineering classes, including Architectural Design, Independent Study in Engineering Design, Electric Vehicle Design and CNC Technology. Melanie is also a member of our high school’s robotics team where her strong CAD and manufacturing skills make her a real asset.
Melanie, along with the January and February Rotary students of the month, will be collectively recognized at a ceremony on March 24 at Saybrook Point Inn. CONGRATULATIONS, MELANIE. JOB WELL DONE! By: Juanjo Vazquez
Officer Frias was kind enough to share with the Spanish National Honor Society his journey from Republica Dominicana to the USA when he was seventeen years old. He presented in Spanish and he was surprised to find out how the whole group was able to follow the presentation. He talked about how hard it was to learn English and how he worked different jobs, and he explained how working in Starbucks helped him to learn English. He said that he is still learning. He told how valuable it is to speak Spanish and how often he uses it while he is on duty. He also talked about adapting to a new culture, learning a new language, and maneuvering between the education in both countries. He answered many questions and shared tips on how to have a meaningful experience in another country. The presentation was conducted in Spanish and the questions from LOLHS students were also in Spanish. On top of being a great leader in our community as a police officer, he is also another role model for our students. We greatly thank Mr. Frias for his time and the information that he shared with us. We also thank Mr. Wygonik for finding these contacts for the Spanish Honor Society and our school. As part of our campaign against plagiarism, students during advisory came up with slogans to promote the campaign. These visuals are being cyled through and posted on the TVs and around school to keep this reminder fresh in our minds. Inclusion means that every person, of every ability, should have the opportunity to fully engage, contribute and participate in their community. How does this happen? This happens when the whole community gets involved! On March 3rd, LOLHS community spread the word to strive to be a more inclusive society. Student and staff signed the pledge and learned different ways to show INCLUSION! Congratulations to Lauren Enright who was selected as a 2022 National Certificate of Distinction recipient of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. Lauren is recognized for her computing-related aspirations and for demonstrating outstanding aptitude and interest in information technology and computing. Well done Lauren! |
