Officer Frias was kind enough to share with the Spanish National Honor Society his journey from Republica Dominicana to the USA when he was seventeen years old. He presented in Spanish and he was surprised to find out how the whole group was able to follow the presentation. He talked about how hard it was to learn English and how he worked different jobs, and he explained how working in Starbucks helped him to learn English. He said that he is still learning. He told how valuable it is to speak Spanish and how often he uses it while he is on duty. He also talked about adapting to a new culture, learning a new language, and maneuvering between the education in both countries. He answered many questions and shared tips on how to have a meaningful experience in another country. The presentation was conducted in Spanish and the questions from LOLHS students were also in Spanish. On top of being a great leader in our community as a police officer, he is also another role model for our students. We greatly thank Mr. Frias for his time and the information that he shared with us. We also thank Mr. Wygonik for finding these contacts for the Spanish Honor Society and our school.
