CABE Student Leadership Awards

6/5/2020

Congratulations to Emily Balocca and Raymond Doll for being selected as this year's Connecticut Association of Boards of Education Student Leaders. Mr. Wygonik presented the students with their award at last week's Board of Education virtual meeting. Both of these students are so deserving of this award.

Emily Balocca is one of those students who it is impossible to forget because of her boundless energy, genuineness, and intellectual curiosity.  There is so much to say about this amazing young woman.   She is a student who seeks out opportunities to expand her knowledge and selflessly gives back to our school and our community every chance she gets.  Emily thrives in a classroom situation, absorbing the information presented and relishing the opportunity to apply this knowledge in a real-life situation. This year, Emily is taking AP English Composition and an independent study entitled ‘Rhetorical Writing’.  I know you will not be surprised to learn that she wants to be a High School English Teacher.  Emily is a founding member of our Student Advisory Council, a group that nurtures and promotes a positive school climate and community.  She is highly regarded by the LOLHS faculty.  Emily sets out every day to help others, and she shoulders these responsibilities with dignity, responsibility, and unflappable poise. I am very proud to present her as CABE leadership award recipient.

Raymond Doll is a wonderful young man.  He is academically and athletically talented. His unparalleled character makes him a natural leader. We have been so lucky to have him join our community. From the very beginning he has earned top grades in challenging courses that included multiple AP courses.  He has grown with each passing year, applying his strong sense of right and wrong to increasing involvements in school activities and beyond. As captain of our boys’ basketball team, Ray led the team to the Shoreline championship and I’ll say it, State Championship as well.   He is also a major influence in our Athletic Leadership Council. Ray is well respected by his teachers and peers. He is a young man that gives me faith in our future. We will miss Ray’s calm and confident demeanor, but we will benefit from the legacy his has left behind.  There is no more deserving student than Ray for the CABE leadership award.

WELL DONE EMILY & RAY!
