The Lyme-Old Lyme chapter of the National Spanish Honor Society recently took a trip to a progressive Mexican Restaurant in Niantic, called La Llorona, where they were able to enjoy a lovely dinner together. We had 4 tables and each table had a different waiter. During a conversation with the manager, I requested that the staff only speak Spanish to Lyme Old Lyme students. Even though waiters had a different accent, all students were able to talk, communicate, and order with staff at the restaurant. The manager and the restaurant staff were able to accommodate a very noisy group of 29 students and one adult. The behavior and the excitement were excellent (based on feedback from nearby tables). Students enjoyed the Mexican cuisine in a very authentic environment. I talked with a science teacher from East Lyme High School and she couldn’t believe how fluent our student were. We will try to go again next year; the practice and cultural value of the experience was well worth it. By: Juanjo Vazquez Comments are closed.
