The Sustainability Committee is excited to announce that the Trex Plastic Film Recycling Challenge will be taking place in all Region 18 schools this year.
The Trex Challenge pits schools against one another in a friendly competition to collect the most plastic for a chance to win Trex benches or other products for schools. Trex Company is a manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing made in-part from recycled plastic film. The Trex Challenge officially begins November 15, 2020 and ends on April 15, 2021. Trex collection bins are located near the main entrances of each school. Students are encouraged to place film directly into the bins on their way into school. Plastic films MUST be clean, dry, empty, and free of food residue. Please remove air from pillow-pack bubble wrap. If you see a #2 or #4 recycle symbol, it can go in the trex bin. Generally, if the plastic film stretches, it can go in the trex bin. See below for examples of what can be recycled in the Trex Challenge. Plastic-like film that is labeled as “compostable” can not be accepted in the Trex Challenge, because the material may not contain any plastic. Freezer bags (think frozen berries) can also not be accepted. Keeping plastic out of landfills is one way Trex and Region 18 are contributing to a healthy environment! Comments are closed.
