Last Tuesday, February 8th, AP Spanish students went to Niantic Cinema for a private viewing of Pedro Almodovar’s latest movie "Parallel Mothers". The ride was short, and when we arrived the owner was waiting for us; he gave us a warm welcome. While I was paying for the tickets, the students were buying popcorn and other sweet things. So far it was no different to any experience in the USA, but when the lights went off, we were transported to Madrid. The parallel life of two new mothers, the theme of Spanish Civil War, and all the elements of the Almodovar’s movies made all the other noises fade away after ten minutes. They witnessed a modern movie that helped them understand how events in the past shape present culture.
