Although Lyme-Old Lyme HS finished 5-3 at the end of the regular season and seeded 5th going into the tournament, the team was ready to set the record straight. In the regular season it had lost to Old Saybrook and HK by ten points or less and had a terrible match against Hale-Ray. After an extremely close quarter final match against HK, LOLHS prevailed 155-150. In the semifinal match, LOLHS was matched against #1 seed Westbrook. Despite Westbrook jumping to an early 20-0 lead, LOLHS regained the initiative and continued to lead despite a 3rd quarter rally by Westbrook when they closed the gap. LOLHS won this semifinal 195-115.
In a nail biting final against the Hale-Ray team that beat us badly in the regular season, LOLHS jumped to a 120-15 lead only to fall behind 210-170 with only minutes to play. A strong fourth quarter rally by LOLHS clinched the match 230-210 and therefore became Shoreline champions for the first time since 2010 despite reaching the semifinals or finals every intervening year!
High scorer for the tournament was junior Ryan McTigue with 155 individual points followed by sophomore Connie Pan with 100 points and then Kathryn Atkinson and Sean Spina with 10 points each. Rachael Larson, Joshua Liefeld, and Avery Wyman also contributed to the 390 team points scored during the tournament.
