Senior Awards... so far

Rotary Students of the Month

Lyme-Old Lyme High School is honored and proud to congratulate two scholars as the selected Rotary Club Students of the Month Award Recipients thus far this year. The Rotary Club recognizes a student from three area schools each month: Old Saybrook, Westbrook and Lyme-Old Lyme. Each month a predetermined department selects a student who best exemplifies the respective discipline.  Also taken into consideration is how a student might embody the core beliefs of the Rotarian: community before self. Once selected, these students are invited to Old Saybrook Point Inn on a Wednesday morning to enjoy a celebratory breakfast with their families. Students are introduced to the audience by a department representative and given an opportunity to talk a little about what plans they have for their future.  It is such a special event.

In October Natalie Rugg was honored for her work and accomplishments in English over the past four years. She has excelled not only as a student of English but as well as and accomplished writer in our school evidenced by the newly redesigned digital school newspaper of which she is editor-in-chief  (see link on right side bar).  She hopes  to continue her studies of English at UCONN next year in the honor program.

Laura Lee Wayland was the November Student of the Month recipient for her success in Math.
Along with excelling in several advanced math courses, Laura Lee is part of the Mathletes Varsity Team which continues to rank #1 in their division and is part of the Robotics team. She hopes to study Engineering in college as well as continue to participate in Irish dance competitions, which she has been doing since first grade!

Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendent's Award

At the November Board of Education meeting, Mr Wygonik award the  Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents Awards to two outstanding recipients, Graham Aird and Caleigh O'Neil.

Graham has excelled in highly competitive academic courses who extends his learning outside the classroom and enriches classroom discussion. This dedication to learning has earned him accolades such as the Scholar-Athlete Award, Saint Michael’s College Book Award, Academic Excellence Awards in Civics and Biology as well as membership in the National Honor Society. Graham possesses leadership qualities which he utilizes to unite his teammates on the Soccer, Basketball and Golf teams, as the President of Student Leaders, as Student Representative to the Lyme Youth Service Bureau’s Board of Directors, as Vice-President of the Youth Advisory Council, and Secretary for the Class of 2017.  Graham’s integrity, approachable manner and tenacity make him an outstanding choice for this award.

Caleigh O’Neil is a remarkable and multi-talented young woman who is committed to both academic and personal excellence. A National Honor Society member and Mount Holyoke Book Award recipient, Caleigh has consistently challenged herself with a rigorous course load and has repeatedly earned high honors. As a Shoreline Conference Scholar Athlete, Caleigh has worked her way from most improved rower to captain of our crew team and a strong contributor to both State and National Championship Regattas. Caleigh has shown equally strong commitment to the Lyme-Old Lyme High School Soccer Team. Her competitive spirit, sportsmanship and drive have helped fuel the program’s success. Caleigh has also devoted numerous hours to community service. She developed a project to promote internet safety for children and mentored students through her role as camp counselor and coach. Caleigh is genuine, humble and true to herself.

We are honored and proud to have Graham Aird and Caleigh O’Neil represent Lyme Old Lyme High School as this year’s recipients of the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendent’s Award.... CONGRATULATIONS!
