Seniors Receive the CABE Student Leadership Award:CONGRATULATIONS TO Griffin McGlinchey and Sydney Goulding who were honored at Wednesday evening's BOE meeting. They received the CABE Student Leadership Award. The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) Student Leadership Awards Program is designed to honor Connecticut High School and Middle School students who exhibit exemplary leadership skills. Griffin McGlinchey has written his own unique path into blossoming as a leader in our school. He leans on his unwavering morals and values to guide everything he does. Griffin serves as a middle mentor school and volunteers his time in a tennis program designed for students with special needs. Academically, Griffin maintains an impressive GPA while taking our most challenging courses. This Sunday he will be honored by the CIAC as Lyme-Old Lyme’s Scholar Athlete of the Year. He has served as captain of our tennis team and most recently for our co-op hockey team that played in the state championship game. Did I mention that he is also president of the senior class? Griffin is highly respected by his peers and our faculty who selected him as the Wildcat Award recipient for the student who most exemplifies our Core Values of integrity, accountability, perseverance, and respect. A scholar, an athlete a musician, a leader, and most of all a gentleman in every sense of the word. And also a deserving recipient of the CABE Leadership Award. Sydney Goulding is a natural, in every sense of the word. Academically, she ranks amongst the highest achievers in her class. Her schedule includes no shortage of advanced placement and early college experience coursework. Athletically, Sydney has set herself apart as a top tier athlete, recognized at the first team all-conference and all-state level for both soccer and lacrosse, while serving as a team captain for both sports. Her coaches would tell you that while her athletic talents are many, it is her leadership, perseverance and grit that truly set her apart. In her ‘free’ time, she is a dedicated equestrian. Her combined talent and passion for horseback riding have led her to pursue a future in equestrianism and veterinary science. Sydney fills all of these roles naturally while managing to be one of the brightest, kindest and most hardworking young adults to pass through our school. Admired by all, Sydney is a rarity and a standout amongst a student body that prides itself on standing out. We are so fortunate to have Sydney represent Lyme-Old Lyme High School, and to present her with the CABE Leadership Award.
