Regardless of race, Americans have an intrinsic right to education. Yet Hispanic-Americans face unjust barriers to accessing it. According to the US Census, they are the least educated group in the country. This is because of things like Academic Support groups not being sufficient, the low variety of resources to Non-Native Spanish speakers also limits help towards individual groups of Spanish speaking students as well, finally, discrimination which is still very prevalent in American schools can limit academic achievement and be a detriment to mental health of Hispanic-American students in these unhealthy environments. This can also have an impact on what jobs these students can receive in the future which is prevalent with teaching jobs as compared to the 73.2% white professors there are only 4.7% of Hispanic Professors in America. However, there have been significant efforts to reduce these problems which limit the interference with education for the Hispanic-American students such as: the re-establishment of the 1990 White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity by the Joe Biden Administration which aims to increase the number of available federal education systems and promote them, and also independent organizations such as Latinos for Education, UnidosUS, and Excellencia in Education which actively spread awareness and take action towards making educational opportunities available specifically for Hispanic communities and individuals. These are just a few examples of how being considerate and being respectful and aware of cultural differences can make huge improvements in Education and more. Comments are closed.
