Last week, LOLHS students came together on November 11 to recognize and thank our heroes. Mr. Ed Shyloski Commander, Lyme-Old Lyme VFW Post 1467 spoke to our students as well as presented a donation of $3,000 to our Band and Chorus program for their trip to Hawaii to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Our assembly included music from the LOLHS Band and Chorus, a welcome speech from Matthew McCarthy, as well as a reading of Aoife Hufford’s award winning essay for the Voice of Democracy. We also viewed “A Soldier’s Story”, the story of a LOLHS graduate and WWII prisoner of war survivor, Mr Keenan. It was a reflective and heartwarming assembly.
