VFW Post 1467 ANNOUNCES LOCAL ESSAY CONTEST WINNERS Each year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars hosts two essay competitions, The Voice of Democracy and The Patriot’s Pen. The Voice of Democracy contest is comprised of a typed essay and audio recording which must be 3 to 5 minutes in length. It is open to students in grades 9-12, and this year’s theme was, “Is This the Country the Founders Envisioned?” This year's winner of the Voice of Democracy is Eleanor Dushin, 11th grade Honorable mention: Madeleine Morgado, 10th grade and Felse Kyle, 11th grade The Voice of Democracy winner, Eleanor Dushin and Patriot’s Pen essay winner, Simon Karpinski will have their submissions advance to the VFW District 4 level competition where their entries will be judged against the winning entries from other VFW Posts in December, 2020. Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen winners may advance from the District to the State and then the National Level. VFW Post 1467 Commander, David Griswold said that he appreciated the student’s participation and wishes Eleanor and Simon the best of luck as they advance to district level. WAY TO GO WILDCATS!
