PARENT SURVEY LOLPS Athletic Director, Hilde Heck, announced on Thursday that IAABO Eastern Board 8 Awards Committee has selected Lyme-Old Lyme Boys Basketball Team as the winner of the "2018-19 Howard Dickenman, Sr. Sportsmanship Award".
This award is voted on by the membership of IAABO Eastern Board 8. When voting for this award, the members look at the sportsmanlike behavior of all players, coaches, fans and administration. This is one of the most important awards that our board gives out. As you know, the basketball court is an extension of the classroom. It's very important for the student/athletes to know how important sportsmanship is. Many life-long lessons can be learned from athletics. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM WAY TO GO WILDCATS! This past weekend, March 8-10, the High School Robotics team attended a robotics competition in Waterbury, Connecticut. Although the team did not bring home any trophies, they had a successful weekend full of learning experiences. During the weekend, the team competed in over a dozen matches where they had to work together with different teams to place disks and shoot balls in a space themed game. The drive team consisted of several students from Old Lyme including Emily Speckhals, Ted Wayland, Nick Fava, and Sarah Hayward. These students had the responsibility of controlling what the robot did during each of the matches. Many other students also helped out with scouting matches in order to gather data on their opponents’ robots. Since January 5th, the robotics team has been working hard on their robot and this was the first event that they attended. During the next few weeks, the Techno Ticks will make improvements to their robot and plan for their next competition in Hartford from April 5-7. Soon thereafter, the team will attend the national competition in Detroit from April 24-28 as a member of the Robotics Hall of Fame.
