The LOLHS Unified Sports Team partnered up with the Westbrook High School Unified Team for a field trip to the Mystic Aquarium this last Thursday. The rain did not keep them from the fun - beluga whales, penguins, sharks, sting rays, cichlids, and sea turtles were just a few of the animals that the athletes were able to see and touch! If you would like to join the Unified Sports team, please see Ms Corah and enroll now on FamilyID! Jeff Jacobs: The story of cross country season? W!SE has named LOLHS a national Blue Star School in Personal Finance once again! To receive this honor, the school earned at least an 86% pass rate on the national financial literacy certification test given during the 2021-22 school year. This is the third time we have received this honor. Working In Support of Education (W!SE) is an educational 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational support services nationwide for building financial literacy. |

The past couple of weeks for Amnesty we have been covering equity in education. We highlighted the importance of equity, the issues in inequity, and how to identify underserved school communities. Some other issues covered with equity in education were the systemic issues included in the system. This includes ethnicity, poverty, and gender. We focused on removing the barriers by demanding better opportunities for students to receive affordable tutoring, after-school help, and learning resources.

WAY TO GO WILDCATS!
This week in Spanish Honors Society we collaborated with Reynolds Subaru on a project for a nearby underprivileged elementary school. We split into two groups, half writing cards and half assembling boxes full of school supplies. The school’s population is 90% bilingual, so the cards were written in both Spanish and English. Members of SHH decorated the cards and completed them with well-wishes for the school year. The rest of the members filled boxes with all sorts of supplies to help classrooms get jump started in the school year. Mechanical pencils, erasers, white board markers, and many other necessities were included in these kits in order to provide support for a school district that is not able to provide as much as they would like to. This was our very first project of this year and we are excited to continue giving back to our community!
Next Meeting: October 12th @ 6:30
The PAB is organizing a Frequently Asked Questions presentation on the workings of the high school Athletic Program. We are in the process of collecting general questions/suggestions from parents. Once compiled, we will submit them to the high school administration. They have agreed to create produce an FAQ document for distribution as well as present their responses at a future PAB meeting. |
