​Former LOLHS Accounting student, Aidan Ward, spoke to Accounting classes to tell them about his experiences as a college accounting major.  Although currently a Sophomore, he gave helpful information about what it was like his Freshman year including not being able to take many courses in his major.  He told the students that the Career Center is invaluable to work with in college; he mentioned that LinkedIn and joining clubs were important for an accounting major to network. In addition to his college experiences, Aidan talked about interning with Mahoney Sabol & Company and being able to use his QuickBooks Certification (which he earned while in high school accounting). He told students that an internship was key to more networking and learning about every aspect of a business from clerical work to actual accounting; he said the important thing you gain from an internship is watching and learning about a future career and how an accounting firm works.  His closing remarks to students pursuing a career in accounting were that students should be able to use Microsoft Excel, go to the professors' office hours, to get involved with campus life, to go to events sponsored by the business school, and to meet accounting firms.  Before leaving, he answered student questions.  Students remarked that they were very impressed with his presentation and that hearing for a current college student helped a lot.​

On Wednesday during our Advisory period, classes gathered in various locations in the school to enjoy each other and bond a bit. Grade 9 students met in the library for some holiday cheer and watch some holiday cartoons. Grade 10 met in the gym to play some cider and volleyball, Grade 11 met in the auditorium to watch Prep and Landing'. And Grade 12 after getting measured for Caps and Gowns,  hung in the commons and played spikeball, ping pong or just be with friends!

LOLHS students who work with Mrs. Zing, had a farewell party for her this week as this was her last week before she embarks on her next chapter of life... retirement!

​The Chinese I class is learning all about Chinese calligraphy - its cultural value and historical significance in the Chinese society; they are also becoming experts in understanding and deciphering the five different styles of calligraphy; as well, they are practicing this ancient form of writing that's not only known for its artistic value, but more importantly, for its communicative functions in language learning and its real-life applications, such as its wide use in commercial signs. It's a great practice of patience, concentration, and self-awareness from a cultural perspective and everyone really enjoys it.

​Former LOLHS Student, Jeff Davis, Zoomed in to Social Media Marketing class to talk about his social media journey from high school to college, to being a Digital Marketing Consultant, to becoming a Senior Advertising Operations Analyst, to his current job as Data Analytics Lead and Coordinator.  Jeff detailed his experiences from being a student at LOLHS, to his college life and classes, to his social media internships, and to his current job with Icon International, Inc. as a Data & Analytics Lead and Coordinator.  Jeff, who now lives in Florida, not only talked about his current job and his responsibilities but also talked about how he started his own on-line business, Jeffrey Davis Fitness LLC.  He explained why he started his own .com business saying he was always interested in fitness and exercise since high school (editor note: in high school, Jeff was a State and local award-winning member on the track team) and how he got the business up and running not only online but also in-person for local residents as well.  Jeff also fielded many questions from the students. Those questions ranged from college life including classes and experiences to what it is like to work in the social media field to starting an on-line business.  Students really enjoyed having Jeff visit via Zoom and to answer the many questions they had.
